Password Protected Directories
See how to make a safe and user-only area in your web site with password-protected directories.
A password-protected directory or area is a folder which could be accessed only if a username and a password are typed in, so no unauthorized people could look at its content. This function may be used for the main folder of a particular Internet site or only for a particular subfolder based upon your needs. As an illustration, if you are developing a new Internet site and you do not want people to see it before it is 100% ready, you may want to prohibit the access to it altogether, while if you would like only some individuals to be able to access certain files, you can password-protect only a specific folder, while the remaining portion of the website can be seen by everyone. Regardless, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear in case the login details the visitor types in aren't accurate. Even a direct link to a file won't work provided any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Web Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area shall take merely a few mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your websites in a cloud web hosting account with us. You'll not need to do anything difficult - you will have to choose a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it should be secured, and then to type in the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. If a number of people need their own login details, there will not be a problem to set up several different usernames with access to the very same folder. All protected folders will appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this function is activated. If you wish to disable the protection feature for any folder, you can disable it from the very same section of the CP in which you have enabled it.
